Dear All,

MPDC Malaysia Open Dancesport Championships 2008 & IPDSC Adjudicator Congress 2008

It is a great pleasure to witness more than three hundred dancesport athletes and officials from Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia supporting and participating in this inaugural MPDC Malaysia Open Dancesport Championships 2008.

Before going further, I would like to put on record that MPDC is registered and recognized by the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia this year as the Malaysia national professional body for Dancesport and following that, MPDC is endorsed by the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Malaysia National Sports Council and National Sports Institute of Malaysia. As a full member of Asian Professional Dancesport Council and International Professional Dancesport Council, MPDC will contribute and play its role in organizing activities that serve to advance the interests and development of Dancesport nationally and internationally.

This MPDC Open is the start of the many MPDC activities coming up. Malaysia national athletes are expected to do their best because the MPDC Open is also a national ranking event and the championship is also good ground for all the Malaysian dancers to gain experience and exposure with the presence of many top dancers from eight other countries.  It is very encouraging to see the biggest number of 23 participants going for the Malaysia National Ranking event in the history of Malaysia dancesport.

It must also be noted that apart from the championship, MPDC had also hosted the IPDSC Adjudicator`s Congress 2008 attracting 44 participants. I would like to thank IPDSC & APDC for granting MPDC this privilege and IPDSC Vice President & also IDSF Presidium Member Mr Shawn Tay for conducting the IPDSC Adjudicator Congress 2008. This would definitely benefit participants wishing to gain more knowledge of competitive dancesport requirements and expectations of adjudicators as well as for the many who are aiming to qualify as adjudicators and improve their standing in adjudicating duties.

Delightfully, both the MPDC Open Dancesport Championships 2008 and IPDSC Adjudicator`s Congress 2008 are successfully conducted despite the time constraint. For this, I must thank the MPDC General Committee, Organizing Committee, Sponsors, all participating dancers and officials, adjudicators, well wishers and supporters for their invaluable time, contribution and support.

Best Wishes,

George Tan

MPDC President

To:

The Malaysia Dancesport Community

28th July 2008

Dear All,

Closure on the MPDA episode

In my open letter to all of you on the status of MPDA posted courtesy of the owner of then known as MDSB Sports Director`s blog on 3rd September 2007, explanation was given as to the circumstances why MPDA actually never take off in terms of registration with either Registrar of Societies or the Sports Commissioner.

The reason why I am taking this course of action of open explanation is to make clear to all what actually happened and from here on, close the chapter on MPDA and move on with our objectives of advancing Dancesport in Malaysia.

Flashback to the end of 2007, it was found out that actually the registration of MPDA with either Registrar of Societies or Sports Commissioner was never effectively done or followed through with. By then and now, it is known fact that the MPDA protem secretary who had left in the midst of all that confusion which I have covered in that open letter dated 3rd September 2007, had already set up another dancesport organization registered with, as based on its name from its website, the Registrar of Companies.

Somehow, together with several key officials who were originally on the MPDA project but who were left in a lurch, we managed to get the Malaysia Professional Dancesport Council (MPDC) registered with the Sports Commissioner and recognized by Sports Commissioner, Ministry of Youth & Sports, National Sports Council and National Sports Institute of Malaysia as the professional Malaysia national body for Dancesport. Internationally, MPDC is already a full member of International Professional Dancesport Council (IPDSC) and Asian Professional Dancesport Council (APDC). All are welcome to visit MPDC website, www.mpdc.org.my for more information.

With that the chapter on MPDA is thus closed as far as we, in MPDC are concerned.

As MPDC President now, I thank all for the support and understanding. I would leave it to all of you to make your own judgement as to your position and that of your students`. It is your decision to choose the direction of your dancesport careers.

It is with pleasure to announce that the MPDC Malaysia Open Dancesport Championships 2008 will be held on 24th August 2008 in Batu Pahat, Johor. The IPDSC Adjudicator`s Congress will also be held on 23rd August 2008. It is also a delight to note that the response to MPDC membership drive is very encouraging.

Thank you very much for your time and attention and looking forward to your continuing support for MPDC.

Yours truly,

George Tan

MPDC President

Dear Members and Colleagues,

ImageThank you very much for the support and understanding to promote MPDC as the professional body for dancesport in Malaysia and from now on, we would have to build it up to fulfill the objectives that MPDC is set up for and the aspirations of its members who have come on board with similar mindset and sharing the same vision.

I am delighted to inform that MPDC is already accepted as an affiliate member of International Professional Dancesport Council (IPDSC) and also, MPDC is member of the Asian Professional Dancesport Council.

The number of tournaments within Asia alone is growing steadily with each member country targeting to host at least one IPDSC/APDC event in a year. For this year, Singapore, China, Korea, Chinese Taipei have already organized their events. Malaysia is looking forward to hosting its championship next year.

Of course, MPDC is not only confined to tournaments. We shall also be planning for the qualification of more Adjudicators from Malaysia and we will be looking seriously at the development and progress of Team Dancesport Malaysia athletes.

Given the growing arena of high performance sports and the government`s increasing attention on results, the future performances of Malaysia Dancesport athletes in especially SEA Games, Asian Indoor Games, 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games apart from the numerous IPDSC/APDC/IDSF championships become a big responsibility of Malaysian dancesport officials. Thus, MPDC must play its role positively in this respect.

We will update all of you on the MPDC programmes, the minute we have confirmed the MPDC calendar of activities. Check out this website for latest update from MPDC.

With the Team Dancesport Malaysia athletes gearing for the Macau Asian Indoor Games 2007 and Korat SEA Games 2007, I wish them all the best.

Yours truly,

 George Tan

President
